There's never enough respect for the dead. As there is never enough respect for the workers, with the dead. That the gravediggers are seen unfavorably has become a topos. This is because these are people who earn the misfortunes of others? Perhaps they are considered unable to embark on other types of work more "happy"? Or is the simple fact that their presence in a particular place could look like an unlucky sign?
The Japanese film "Departures" is just the unoriginal theme of death through the analysis of an original work, Thanatos-Aesthetics, of which little or nothing is known in the West.
Diango protagonist is a man who, after a failed career as a cellist in Tokyo, decided to return with his wife to the little village where he was born. Here you will find Thanatos-work as Aesthete, ie the one who prepares the bodies to their extreme aesthetic journey, not without difficulties and prejudices that cause the employment.
captivates the delicacy with which it dealt with death in a country like Japan, where they are still very much present, despite the rampant modernity, ancient rites and traditions, almost whimsical in our eyes. There is no blood, no despair, but only a few tears that may fall by observing the actions of professional lenses, suffering under the eyes of relatives.
Winner of the 2010 Oscar as best foreign film, in my opinion really nice and touching.
